Espanola and Area Family Health Team and Massey Medical Clinic Formalize Partnership to Strengthen Primary Care in the Region

Espanola, ON — Strengthening primary care in rural communities requires collaboration, shared understanding, and a commitment to working together. Today, the Espanola and Area Family Health Team and the Massey Medical Clinic signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), formalizing a partnership focused on advancing the health and wellness of the communities they serve.

The agreement was signed by Katie Wiebenga, Manager of the Espanola and Area Family Health Team, and Marla Toulouse, Manager of the Massey Medical Clinic, in the presence of the senior leadership team of Espanola Regional Hospital and Health Centre and the Mayor and Council of the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers.

The partnership emerged from shared challenges facing rural healthcare, particularly physician recruitment. Recognizing that these challenges are not unique to any one community, the Espanola and Area Family Health Team and the Massey Medical Clinic have committed to exploring opportunities for collaboration that strengthen access to primary care. Guided by principles of collaboration, patient-centred care, equity and access and innovation and quality, the agreement creates a framework for the organizations to work together respectfully and transparently while remaining independent in their operations.

While the MOU does not create legal obligation, it reflects the mutual interest and goodwill of both organizations and their commitment to continued collaboration. Through open communication and professional partnership, the Espanola and Area Family Health Team and the Massey Medical Clinic will seek opportunities to support one another, share knowledge, and advance common goals that advance healthcare services across the region.
